Thank you! I would really like to do an engraving sometime. This pen I used was so small that it felt like I was using a needle (I even used 2 whole nibs for the drawing), but it's still a bit messy, which resulted in a bit of a dirty look. I don't think that's a bad thing, but I would still like to try it out sometime.
I really appreciate your comment, and thank you for adding this piece to your favorites!
Gustave Dore kicks ass. I love his work. I think I like the black and white version of this piece better, but this one seems to have more background if I remember correctly. Nice work!
I have two big books of Gustave Doré, with a total of 597 big engravings. One book I don't like, because all the subjects are merchants, Indonesians, Africans etcetera, but the other book is a big bible, with those religious engravings. The best are still those of Paradise Lost, though. But anyway, I love his work aswell. He's one of my heroes you could say. Together with Albrecht Dürer.
The brownish color and a bit dirtier effect were on request of the band. There are some brown, grey and green tones in it, although I made the brown the most obvious.
Here I offer you a black/white version. Let me know which one you like better. [link]
I don't have any of his books, but I did save a bunch of high-def images of his work from the internet. I agree, the biblical ones are some of the best. Albrecht Durer is another favorite of mine. Pretty much all the old masters who were good with pen and ink I can admire. They are good for inspiration.
I looked at the black and white and the brown again. I think the brown one does look better, because it has that more antique, traditional feel to it. The black and white one looks more like a contemporary print.
Yeah I thought so too. I'm going to release this album through my label. I'm thinking of printing the logo and title in gold (or in silver incase the band decides the black/white one is better). I'm still not sure how much it will cost me, but I think around $600.
By the way, do you know any names of other "old masters" that did engravings? I know only a few others, and there isn't much to find of them.
You're right. I can't find too many of them either. This one is the only one I could find, though other artists did engrave a few pieces in their careers. Most of them are painters however. Maybe the terms I used to search for them were not correct.

The gold or silver lettering would make the black and white look pretty good.

I don't think the gold lettering will cost much more, but I might be surprised.
